Journalists and their intermediaries in Egypt

When journalists are researching an article abroad and want to report on a topic, they are often unfamiliar with the social, political and cultural circumstances of the country. This is when so-called fixers or intermediaries often come into play. They act as local cultural specialists and organizers.
Our expert Julia met with journalists and their intermediaries for her master’s thesis. She analyzed the relationship between the actors in Egypt. We will discuss what role these intermediaries play in the creation of an article. We also want to ask about the working conditions of the fixers and critically scrutinize the hierarchical relationships of the journalistic tandem.
